New York Times: “Trump Made Inaccurate Claims About the Military During His West Point Speech. He Also Bizarrely Discussed Trophy Wives!

“The president made misleading claims about his military budgets, the fight against the Islamic State and wars in the Middle East.” ( New York Times, May 23, 2025).

During his West Point speech, Trump’s voice was tired, unethusiastic, and meandering. It was not what a graduation address should be. These poor graduates were probably thinking, “Oh shit, my life may be in his hands someday.” One thing Trump promised was that the United States would be fighting hard against our enemies. THAT’S SCARY BECAUSE TRUMP DOESN’T SEE RICH DICTATORS AS OUR ENEMIES.

Trump looked undignified and unserious at West Point’s graduation. Wearing that dumb red hat has become cliche, desperate and divisive in a country reeling from political chaos. He showed no class at the ceremony and no patriotism or understanding of military service or veterans’ hearts, souls, and sacrifices. Unlike President Biden, who remained after his speech at West Point to shake the hands of the graduates, Trump skipped that ritual. His arrogance and narcissism are pathological and disrespectful. Every ally in Congress, the Administration, and voters who kiss his ass for favors that he will never deliver, must pay in some way for supporting this unqualified felon to lead our country and our men and women in uniform.

The highlights of Trump’s failed West Point address are:

● Insinuated that the military is no longer respected by saying that “the military will be respected again” because of him.

● Embarrassingly revealed his weak ego by disaparaging former presidents of the United States.

● Wore his costumed red hat ” Make America Great Again” making the event more about himself than the graduates

● Vowed to use the military to protect our borders as a means to spread the false narrative that we are under attack by massive numbers of dangerous immigrants

● Babbled about a random story about men and trophy wives

Trump’s history of calling dead soldiers “losers and suckers”, dodging the draft 5 times, disparaging the heroic military service of Senator John McCain, and using the military as a prop during his assault on the Black Lives Matter reaction to the murder of George Floyd made Trump an awkward choice for being the commencement speaker at West Point.

Adding to the irony of honoring him with speaking at the graduation is his alignment with Elon Musk and DOGE’s cutting of veteran benefits, eliminating VA jobs, and implementing massive reductions in the size of agencies that provide essential services for veterans.

Members of the military KNOW Trump doesn’t know more than the generals, which is why they must be terrified by his deficient military knowledge and delusional belief that he does know more than career military professionals.

Focusing on how Trump is destroying President Biden’s strong economy is an essential strategy in the fight against his presidency. However, the focus on his delusional perception of himself is also essential. Every time Trump talks, there are examples of his narcissism, sociopathy, racism and ignorance about essential topics that a president is expected to know to protect our country.
IT’S BAFFLING WHY YOUNG MEN, MEMBERS OF THE MILITARY AND LAW ENFORCEMENT LOOK AT TRUMP AND SEE A SPECIMEN OF MASCULINITY? MASCULINE MEN DON’T WHINE, THEY CAN LOSE WITHOUT FEELING SHAME, THEY DON’T BULLY, AND THEY RESPECT, NOT DOMINATE WOMEN. HEALTHY MASCULINITY INCLUDES BRAVERY, A STRONG SELF-ESTEEM, COMPASSION, AND DECENCY. UNFORTUNATELY, OUR COUNTRY AND OUR MILITARY ARE LEFT WITH FAKING RESPECT FOR A MAN THAT SHOWS NO RESPECT FOR THE LAWS AND VALUES OF AMERICA. TRUMP FAILED TO GIVE WEST POINT GRADUATES A ROLE MODEL TO BE PROUD OF, TO TRUST, AND TO FEEL PROTECTED BY.

During his 2024 campaign, Trump promised to end the Russia/ Ukraine War and Israel/ Gaza War in 24 hours. He bossted that his negotiating skills could solve the most complex military conflicts that nobody else could solve. HOWEVER, IT’S NOT SURPRISING THAT AFTER 4 1/2 MONTHS, THE WARS CONTINUE. IN PARTICULAR, PUTIN IS NOT DETERRED BY TRUMP’S NEGOTIATING STYLE OR HIS OBSESSION WITH WINNING THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE TO END THE MILITARY OPERATIONS AGAINST UKRAINE.

The West Point cadets were undoubtedly uninspired by Trump’s speech, which was filled with bluster by a man who intends to use their name and resources for a birthday parade to honor himself as the great Commander-in-Chief. LET’S HOPE THAT FAILS TO HAPPEN.
