Democrats demand to know what’s up with Ghislaine Maxwell

House Democrats are seeking answers from the Trump administration following the decision to move convicted sex criminal Ghislaine Maxwell from a high-security federal prison to a minimum security facility after she took part in private meetings with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, the president’s former personal defense counsel.

In a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons William K. Marshall III, the lawmakers — members of the House Judiciary Committee — criticized the meeting and Maxwell’s move to “a far preferable and relatively luxurious minimum-security prison camp.”

“These actions raise substantial concerns that the Administration may now be attempting to tamper with a crucial witness,” the letter reads, “conceal President Trump’s relationship with convicted sex offenders, and coax Ms. Maxwell into providing false or misleading testimony in order to protect the President.”

The lawmakers, led by Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., and Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., further accused the Trump administration of a “cover-up” over the “highly unusual” meeting with Blanche.

“The need for this meeting was undercut by DOJ’s recent contradictory statements that its thorough review of the Epstein files, which reportedly identified repeated references to the president, did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties,” the lawmakers wrote.

The letter demands that the Trump administration “come clean” about “the full scope of Mr. Blanche’s interview of Ms. Maxwell and the sudden decision to transfer her to a minimum security prison camp.” In addition, the lawmakers ask that all relevant documents, transcripts and communications involving the meetings and subsequent move be presented to the House Judiciary Committee by August 26.

Maxwell, an accomplice of Jeffrey Epstein, was found guilty of sexually exploiting and abusing girls as young as fourteen in 2021 and was sentenced to 20 years behind bars.
