Eric Trump, the second son of President Donald Trump, weighed in on his father’s hot mic moment earlier this week in Egypt, hyping up his family’s business operations and side-stepping the president’s involvement in them.
On Monday, President Trump was caught on a hot mic when speaking with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. In the conversation, Subianto asked to speak with “Eric,” likely referring to the president’s son and Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization.
Trump is heard saying, “I’ll have Eric call. Should I do that? He’s such a good boy. I’ll have Eric call.” Subianto then says, “We’ll look for a better place.”
Speaking with CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins on Thursday, Eric Trump said his father had not spoken with him yet on the matter.
“But I’m glad he acknowledges that I’m a good boy. I am a good boy,” Trump said. He then shifted course and praised the golf resorts owned by the Trump Organization in Indonesia, calling them “two of the most consequential real estate projects…in the region.”
“We have two of the biggest projects in Indonesia…got a great project in Bali. We’ve been working on it for a decade.” Eric Trump also said he “operate[s]” the Trump International Club in Lido, south of the capital of Jakarta, “every single day.”
When asked by Collins about a “big wall” being between the U.S. president and the family business, Eric Trump demurred, saying Subianto “has never met me.”
“I think there’s a huge wall,” Eric Trump said. “I mean, we’ve got two very prominent projects, and the guy asked to meet me because he has never met me. And so, I don’t know, I think — I think that probably indicates that there’s a pretty damn big wall, right there.”
In 2024, a federal judge ruled that Eric Trump, along with his brother Donald Trump, Jr., would be banned from leading any New York-based organizations for two to three years, following a highly-publicized financial fraud trial. The ruling effectively removed the Trump brothers from their directing the day-to-day operations of Trump Organization.
