Recently, reports indicated that Donald Trump’s favorite pet pundit and CNN’s resident asshole, Scott Jennings, is shaking out to be the frontrunner to replace outgoing White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who recently announced she was parting ways with the Trump Administration following the birth of her newest child.
Now, it seems that negotiations for Jennings’ new gig are fully underway, as the Daily Mail reports that the CNN Conservative talking head has been holding secret, little closed-door meetings with President Donald Trump’s most powerful aide, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
Jennings has yet to confirm publicly that he’s vying for the gig, but his public behavior certainly suggests he’s downright desperate for it.
Now, three sources familiar with the matter have told Daily Mail, where Jennings himself often serves as a columnist, that the Trump lackey is already meeting with Trump’s top dog to discuss taking on the press secretary role before Karoline Leavitt has even packed up her office and headed out the door.
According to the inside sources, Wiles has already pegged Jennings, who formerly served as a senior aide under George W. Bush as well as a senior advisor to America’s Schrödinger’s Senator Mitch McConnell, as her chosen candidate and has met with the pundit on more than one occasion to iron out the details.
Sources said Wiles and Jennings “speak often,” with one person stating that the job is “his if he wants it,” noting that “he does.”
The pair had their most recent clandestine meeting at the D.C. steakhouse, Morton’s, just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the White House this weekend, as other potential candidates for the gig were clamoring over each other, vying for the President’s hard-to-earn attention during an event at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club.
One source said, “They were all trying to get in front of him this weekend. It was like The Apprentice. It reeks of desperation.”
However, despite Wiles and Jennings colluding behind closed doors, insiders have said that the CNN talking head doesn’t actually have the job in the bag quite yet, as Trump supposedly prefers another woman to take over Leavitt’s role — even as his bizarre relationship with his weirdo little aide Natalie Harp dominates recent headlines.
Apparently Harp is one of many who have thrown their hat into the press secretary ring, joining the likes of Trump’s former attorney Alina Habba, current DHS press secretary Katie Zacharia, her predecessor Tricia McLaughlin, RNC spokesperson Elizabeth Pipko, former Kennedy Center spokesperson Roma Davari, housing chief Bill Pulte, Breitbart’s D.C. bureau chief Matthew Boyle, and White House Communications Director Steven Cheung.
Some reports have even indicated that Trump is actually floating the idea of a revolving-door approach to the situation, potentially keeping a rotation of several press secretaries on deck.
Whoever ends up reigning victorious, I am certain they will be perfectly awful.
