Attorney General Todd Blanche’s claims to ABC News that certain media outlets have become a national security threat in their reporting on the Trump administration fell flat and sounded moronic in his defense of Trump’s media ban.
Even after the judge issued a temporary restraining order on Trump’s ban of MS NOW, CNN, and Politico, Trump barred CNN from flying on Air Force One. When host Martha Raddatz called him out on it, Blanche got angry.
The ABC host described Trump’s disregard to the First Amendment and said he has “denied access.” This upset the AG, complaining it was not the right way to describe it.
Rewriting what Trump says is one of his prime functions as AG.
“What I’m talking about is the government’s position and what the Department of Justice said in court, which is the same thing that President Trump has said repeatedly, which is at some point, at some point, the complete misinformation and the inaccuracy and the one-sided news out of certain organizations does become a national security issue and it’s not right for the people of the United States to have to put up with it,” Blanche said.
It’s not the country that is upset with accurate reporting, it’s Vonshitzhispants.
RADDATZ: So are you saying you’re going to screen people before they get on a flight coming to the White House?
BLANCHE: I did not say that. No, no. I did not say that.
RADDATZ: But you said the President gets to decide.
BLANCHE: Don’t get to put words in my mouth.
RADDATZ: I’m not.
BLANCHE: Don’t get to put words in my mouth. That’s not the way it works.
Poor Toadie got his knickers in a twist but he looked ridiculous doing so. Raddatz then did something important. She asked him about the First Amendment.
RADDATZ: What does the First Amendment mean to you?
BLANCHE: Well, what does it mean to me? What it means to me is not the issue. But what the law says, what the free press can do, is they are free to report whatever they want. OK? Of course they can.
The AG at least understands what the law says, but he must always cater to his Lord and Savior and that’s where he falls on his face.
“But when it comes to the White House, it is the people’s house,” he said. “It is a privilege and not a right to be there.”
Sorry, Toadie is making the case that it’s Trump’s house and he gets to decide how the media should report on him. That’s breaking the law. If he really thought it was the people’s house, there wouldn’t be stupid press restrictions and bans.
BLANCHE: And what every American should expect is that when they are told something on any network or when they read something in the paper, that it even has a whiff of impartiality, that it even has a whiff of accuracy about what’s actually happening.
And if that’s not happening, then it is absolutely the president’s duty to make sure that the American people are hearing accurate news. And if that’s not happening, then it is absolutely the president’s duty to make sure that the American people are hearing accurate news.
It is not Trump’s responsible to monitor the media to decide what is acceptable to him. That’s a violation of the First Amendment.
RADDATZ: But you heard what the president said, they want to try and diminish the Republicans and a Republican administration. That’s the president saying, not talking about impartiality.
BLANCHE: You just picked out seven words the president said. The president talks about his concerns with a lot of these mainstream media outlets for – there’s hours and hours and hours of quotes and statements about that.
So for you to pick out seven words and say, oh, that’s what the president means, that’s extraordinarily disingenuous, OK, everybody knows exactly what the president’s concern is.
RADDATZ: I think we could give other examples.
When Blanche is nitpicking a few words, you know he is lying and losing. Toadie was not through trying to rewrite the constitution.
BLANCHE: It doesn’t have to be positive. It doesn’t have to be something that just makes Republicans look good. But it has to be fair and balanced, and that’s what the president expects.
RADDATZ: OK. And the judge found that not to be true with the national security.
The truth is the truth.
There is no “balancing the message” to appease a narcissistic a-hole. When the function of an AG is only to stroke the president that appointed them, all of us suffer.
Blanche is a blight on the entire US justice system.
